My New Ring

If I was feeling a little bit like I missed out on all the really good swag from BlogHer, I've more than made up for it since I've been home. One of the benefits to BlogHer is that you meet all these great people who then turn around and make terrific offers to you.

One such person is Lindsay, who I happened to meet because I overheard her say something about a dress. Lindsay works for an online jewelry store called Gemvara and she offered me a special BlogHer discount on a piece of jewelry (in exchange for me writing about my experience here). (Do I have to say that part?) (Damn. I should've gone to that FCC regulations session.) (But seriously, I had no idea anyone would want to give me anything!!)

Ahem.

So I'm all, hell yeah! Jewelry! And I headed over to the Gemvara web site to see what it was all about. "Vara" is the Sanskrit word for "wish," and all of the Gemvara jewelry is customizable. So technically, when people compliment on my ring, I can say, "Thanks. I designed in myself." Heh. Customizable jewelry isn't something I probably would have been sold on right away — I mean, I totally expected to go to the site, find something I liked, and buy it. But I was browsing through the rings section (I'm kinda into rings these days.) and I came across this beautiful three-stone ring. It's called the Summer Palace ring, because the ornate scrolls and curves were inspired by a European summer palace. And of course, how much do I love the thought of that??

And I'm looking at the ring, thinking it would be really pretty on, and the purple "CUSTOMIZE" button is just staring at me. And I couldn't help be curious as to how the ring could be customized. So I clicked on it. And I started playing around with different metals and stones and ideas. I was actually having a really good time, when it occurred to me that there are three members of my family. I could totally make this a Mother's Ring.

Not only that, but mine and Chip's birthdays are both in November, so we have matching birthstones. So if I put Elijah's birthstone in the middle — naturally, being the largest of the three stones and the center of the universe ring — I'd actually have a beautifully symmetric ring.
Then (even more customization), I engraved the inside with our names, in the order of the stones. And I ordered that sucker. I can't wait for it to get here.

If you'd like to design a ring of your own (or maybe some earrings, or a necklace), you can use this link to receive your own $50 discount at checkout. The discount will be figured automatically if you shop from that link. If you get something, send me a photo or a link so I can enjoy yours too.
